Cutlery/Flatware Product Care

Caring for your Robert Welch Cutlery/Flatware

Our products are designed to last a lifetime so they can be enjoyed day after day. Please use the following information on how best to care for your cutlery/flatware for the lifetime we expect it to last.

Care of Stainless Steel Cutlery/Flatware

We recommend washing your cutlery/flatware in the dishwasher:

Wash on a short hot cycle 65°-75°C (150°-167°F)

• Use quality branded all in one dishwasher tablets*

• Keep Rinse Aid topped up and Salt (for hard water areas).

Avoid washing with non-stainless steel metals (this can cause rust staining - especially on knives).

Ensure the dishwasher filters are cleaned and use a proprietary dishwasher cleaner regularly.

*For UK customers we recommend Fairy Platinum Plus and for US customers Cascade Platinum Plus.

When washing your Cutlery/Flatware by hand:

Rinse cutlery/flatware to remove all traces of food as soon as possible after use. Wash in warm soapy water with a microfibre cloth or non abrasive brush**. Try to avoid soaking your cutlery/flatware and always dry thoroughly immediately after washing.

**Always avoid scouring with pads or abrasive cleaners as this will scratch the surface.

To restore your finish on your cutlery/flatware we recommend using a dry microfibre cloth.

Caring for Silver Plated Cutlery/Flatware

We recommend hand washing your silverplate cutlery/flatware:

Rinse your cutlery/flatware to remove all traces of food as soon as possible after use. Wash in warm soapy water carefully with a microfibre cloth or non abrasive brush**. Do not soak your cutlery/flatware and always dry thoroughly immediately after washing with a microfibre cloth.

**Always avoid scouring with pads or abrasive cleaners as this will scratch the surface.

We recommend polishing your silver plated cutlery/flatware twice per year to maintain its finish, too much polishing can wear down the silver plated finish. Between polishes, buffing with a dry microfibre cloth will preserve its beautiful, mirrored finish.

A silver cleaner or 'dip' can restore tarnished silver cutlery/flatware to its optimum condition.
Ensure silver cutlery is only dipped momentarily and wash off the solution thoroughly with warm water.

To restore the finish on your silver plate we recommend using a dry microfibre cloth.

Common Marks; their Causes and Remedies:

Rust

Stainless steel does not rust, but it can receive rust marks from other metallic items in your sink or dishwasher, for example: cast-iron, silver, silver-plate, steel wool or non-stainless steel implements. Thankfully, this is only aesthetic and is easily removed with a proprietary stainless steel cleaning cream (we recommend Bar Keepers Friend). In any case you do not see an improvement please contact the Customer Care Team at help@robertwelch.com.

Scratches

It is normal for fine scratches to appear on new cutlery/flatware from normal everyday use – these minor scratches will develop into a fine patina over time.

Rainbow Marks

Caused by detergents not being washed off correctly, contact with hot fat, contact with vinegar, wine and even foods that are high in acidity. These marks can sometimes be remedied using the dishwasher instructions above, or easily removed with a proprietary stainless steel cleaning cream (we recommend Bar Keepers Friend). In any case you do not see an improvement, please contact the Customer Care Team at help@robertwelch.com.

Water Marks

Caused by water droplets when left to dry on your cutlery/flatware. Using a hot wash cycle as recommended above will remedy this or they can easily be removed with a microfibre cloth.

Pitting

Caused by natural salts and acids present in foodwhen left in contact for a long period and can also be caused by excess salts used in the dishwasher. The damage to the stainless steel is unfortunately not reversible.  Please contact the Customer Care Team at help@robertwelch.com.
