5 WAYS TO GET YOUR CUTLERY SET FOR CHRISTMAS

Setting the table for a special occasion like Christmas is exciting! Whatever the size of the party there will be many things to consider – centrepieces, candlelight and décor – but when setting the table, surely the unsung hero of every meal has to be the cutlery?

These tips will help you to get your knives, forks & spoons ready for their busiest time of the year, whether you’re looking to invest in new cutlery, add to a set you already own or simply clean up the one you have.

Let us help you to make sure your cutlery set really shines!

1. Consider the size of cutlery set you need

We offer all of our cutlery designs in sets of 7, which is an individual place setting made up of: a table knife, table fork, soup spoon, side knife, side fork, dessert spoon, and an English Teaspoon. These same 7 pieces make up our most popular 42 piece cutlery set for 6 people, as well as our 56 (8 place settings) and 84 (12 place settings). However, our 24 piece cutlery set for 6 people is made up of: a table knife, table fork, soup spoon, and an English Teaspoon.

You can choose individual pieces and serving items in all of our cutlery designs, so that you can add to your cutlery set and make it up to the number of place settings you require.

Additionally, some of our most popular designs, such as our Radford Bright cutlery, have specialist and useful items to complement the main 7 piece place setting – some of the more unusual include a lobster pick, condiment spoon, oyster fork, Gourmet serving spoon and snail tongs.

2. Which finish suits your style?

Our cutlery comes in four distinct finishes. The finish brings each design to life, but it must be said that not every pattern comes in every finish.

Satin Finish: Brushed stainless steel is a softer, modern look and a warmer more relaxed feel for the table.

Vintage Finish: A distinct, semi-matte effect produced by tumbling the cutlery. A contemporary look with its own vintage personality.

Bright Finish: The stainless steel is mirror polished, bringing a smooth, bright finish to the cutlery and a shine to the dining experience.

Silver plated: The spoons, forks and the handles of knives are silver-plated. The colour and shine of the silver bestows a timeless elegance to any table.

In addition, a number of textured designs are available, all applied to a bright finish.

3. Mix & Match

Our textured designs bring that little something extra to the table. Catching and reflecting light, they create a unique and contrasting accent as a set on their own or when mixed and matched together with bright cutlery pieces.

By combining the right cutlery you can add impact on the table and create a unique accent. Mix a textured design and a complementary style on your table to really show off your flair for laying an elegant table. Simply by swapping out one element, such as the table knives, steak knives or the condiment spoons, and introducing a textured design in their place you can add an extra dimension to proceedings – an easy tip to try at home with any mis-matching cutlery or serving pieces you enjoy using!

Our extensive collections include individual textures in a flawless bright finish for the ultimate dining experience. Each stainless steel piece is designed to interact with the light in its own unique way, and candlelight in particular really picks out the details.

Honeybourne Bright cutlery shimmers in the light, making it the perfect Christmas cutlery, whilst the subtle lustre of Sandstone, Skye or Blockley Slate cutlery offer a more understated appeal.

But… is adding a few extra pieces to your cutlery set enough to bring it up to date, or is it time to upgrade or buy a different set?

4. Invest in an upgrade

The legacy of our nearly 70 years of specialising in cutlery design is a collection of more than 30 unique cutlery designs. We have grouped our cutlery to make choosing a new cutlery set for your home even easier. Our aim in creating these cutlery collections was to provide a solution for the customer who doesn’t want to search endlessly for the right pattern, preferring expert guidance on how to choose an affordable, quality cutlery set that will last.

Nevertheless, with so much variety, choosing cutlery can still seem overwhelming so we have also written an in-depth guide that explains how to choose the right cutlery set for you.

5. Give it a good clean!

Research suggests that people buy a maximum of three sets of cutlery over a lifetime, but if you aren’t ready to upgrade just yet let us help you make the most of the cutlery you already own.

Unwanted marks that appear on your stainless steel cutlery can be easily remedied and some avoided altogether by following our simple guide: How to care for your cutlery.

It is not unusual for fine scratches to appear on new cutlery through normal, everyday use. Scratches will gradually accumulate over time, eventually resulting in a new surface finish. This will be more obvious on our Bright finished or Mirror polished cutlery. Our Satin finish will make this transformation far less obvious, and our Vintage finish speeds up the process as we tumble the cutlery pieces in a drum with ceramic balls to create such a surface in the first place.

Well-made objects gain worth through use and, as they get handed down from generation to generation, they live one life (or more) and carry innate meaning with them because of where or who they have come from and what they have picked up along the way. Objects have a life, they tell a story - a well-used and loved set of cutlery is far more valuable than one that remains in the drawer.
